Alexandria, VA is located on the Potomac River, Alexandria is known for its old town and 18th century buildings. Being about 7 miles south of downtown Washington D.C. it is largely influenced by its closeness to the United States Capital. Alexandria’s historic center is known as Old Town which is filled with restaurants, antique shops, theatres and boutiques.
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial – Dedicated to the first President of the United States, George Washington, this memorial is located right in Alexandria, Virginia. Through tours visitors are educated on American History and George Washington himself. The National Park Services has name the memorial a National Historic landmark as of 2015.
Gadsbys Tavern Museum – This 18th-century tavern and hotel offers tours, special events and programs for visitors to learn more of what Gadsby’s Tavern is all about. This historical site contains two buildings, a tavern and a hotel where famous historical figures had dined and slept. Gadsby’s Tavern was a center of business and social life in early Alexandria and guided tours will give you a glimpse of how life was in the 18th-century.
Torpedo Factory Art Center – This factory was once a torpedo factory in the early 1900’s. Today the Torpedo Factory Art Center holds the nation’s largest collection of publicly working-artists studios. Right on the Potomac Riverfront this factory has been a landmark in Alexandria for over 40 years. All types of artwork is displayed for observation and for purchase.
